Dear Yulegoat (2012)

Dear Yuletide Author,

I love you! I'm not just saying that. Thank you for participating in Yuletide. I have been on Livejournal for quite a few years and, every holiday, my entire flist EXPLODES with chatter and excitement about Yuletide. I have always been too intimidated/afraid to participate, but I took the plunge two years ago, and the only thing I regret is not joining sooner.

I love Yuletide. I love writing. I love /you/. So, thank you: Thank you for diving face first into rare fandoms. If there's one thing the holiday season means to me, it's knowing that people are creating and sharing and having fun. Please. PLEASE have fun.

But enough about you, this is my post. About me. My favorite person. (I hope you read that with all due sarcasm.)

Since you've been volunteered to write for me, there are some things you may like to know: I love cheesy humor and unresolved sexual tension. I adore really horrible puns and punch lines that you can see a mile away. I revel in depth and angst, however, and those little moments where fics and fandom reach into your chest and rip out your heart -- those are the best. I also love reading something so subtle and/or deep that I have to sit up and re-read the story for a better perspective.

I find myself attracted to morally grey characters: pirates, smugglers, crime lords, thieves, bounty hunters, assassins, gamblers, etc.. If you don't feel comfortable focusing on a particular character, I would love to see a fresh take on the series: how does Paradigm City fair when their heroes are genderbent? I also love off-the-wall character introspection and slice of life: what's it like for Nathan Drake to go grocery shopping? I'm also a HUGE fan of personification, so if you want to write a fic from the perspective of Axton's Turret, I'm totally game. Hit me.

On the other hand, I am NOT a big fan of sappy romance or self-pity. I may actually be allergic to both. Hives, even. Don't get me wrong: I love pairings: platonic, canon, and crack! I love it when a character bends over backward for his or her partner. I even enjoy PWP, slash, and multi fics! But hate it when a character incessantly whines.

And with that, I wish you luck!

Big O
(Angel, Dorothy, Roger, Beck)

I have nominated Big O for a few years. I keep offering to write for it, even. I have never seen a Big O fic come across my dash. It'd be awesome to see one, this year.

I love and adore Big O. It took me a while to get into it. I thought it was a Japanese clone of the Batman Animated Series (which I loved). I recorded it and wound up taking a weekend to watch every episode, back to back. It took me about 8 solid hours of Big O to realize that I didn't want it to end.

Angel is my favorite character. She's sassy, sexy, and smart. She doesn't have to take shit from anyone, but there's some small part of her that can't help it. She's so complicated and intense. (I never pegged her as the reset button.) I'd love to see a fic that revolves around her and her self-realization. I'd love to see a fic where she figures who/what she is and has to debate whether she's rebooting the universe for the good of everyone or to simply escape reality.

I find Roger dead sexy. I can't help it. He's smooth like that. (And the voice didn't hurt.) My favorite Roger episodes were the ones where he kind of bumbled through the scenes, though -- getting kidnapped by Beck or finding himself lost and homeless in Paradigm. I love seeing his self confidence and/or sanity questioned and then resolved by the people who love him. It'd be nice to see more of his relationship with Dan or Angel.

I love Dorothy. She has this AI conundrum of being infinitely smarter and more aware than people give her credit for while still looking like a little girl. I dislike it when people try to humanize her, however. I dislike Roger/Dorothy from a romantic point of view, but I loved their antagonistic partnership in The Greatest Villain. I think it would be fun to read a fic from Dorothy's perspective, as an AI, or to possibly explore her relationship with Norman. (I'd also dig a piece on that Roger/Angel/Dorothy jealousy triangle thing that DON'T DENY IT went down toward the end.)

And Beck? Well. I love Beck for all the wrong reasons. Mostly, he reminds me of Lupin III -- another of my favorite anime series. I love that he's goofy and always has some hair-brained scheme to attempt. I reveled in the plot twist about his fate -- it'd be nice to see a more serious side of him. Or a zany side. Hey, what if he was the Negotiator? Doesn't that sound like fun?

(Salvador, Gaige, Axton)

Okay, I'll admit it: I have been shipping Salvador and Gaige since their concept art was released. And I was on REALLY SKETCHY GROUND while the demos were releasing Gaige's age at something closer to 14-16 than 18. (I've got an entire folder of racy Salvador/Gaige fic that may never see the light of day...) BUT! The BL2 writers confirmed that Gaige is 18+. (Whew!)

SO! I'll be ecstatic if you want to take a stab at something Salvador/Gaige. (The more I play Gaige, the more I dress her up like Salvador -- I can totally see a fic where she follows him around and tries to emulate the Bonefide Pandoran Badass.) My themesong for the two of them is Matchbox Twenty's "Like Sugar", though, so I'm leaning toward something a little darker for the pairing.

I understand if you'd feel more comfortable with Salvador/Axton, a single character, or some variation therein. (There is absolutely nothing wrong with Axton and his love for his turret. I have a soft spot for dudes who are genuinely in love with inanimate objects -- Doctor Who, Varric Tethras, Jeff Moreau...)

If shipping really isn't your mug of rum, I'm totally cool with anything Borderlands. Backstories are cool, Handsome Jack is awesome, I love Clap Trap ... Really, I'd be game for Claptrap the Musical if you felt so possessed. And, if you're feeling adventurous, I would totally read the journal of a Teodore/Maliwan/Dahl employee (quality assurance? customer service? distribution?), and love you forever for it.

And now I'm imagining a Portal/Borderlands crossover wherein a poor Dahl employee is accidentally uploaded into Axton's Turret. Or a Doctor Who/Borderlands crossover:
Doctor: (Opens TARDIS door.)
Claptrap: Minion!
Doctor: (Slams TARDIS door.)

(Nathan Drake, Victor Sullivan)

I absolutely adore the Uncharted series. I wanted to be Indiana Jones when I grew up, so this fresher, more modern version of the genre was love at first sight.

I have the biggest crush on Nathan Drake, so you can do no wrong with any witty/silly/funny story revolving around him. I thrive on the film noir heists and zany adventures and he's always in the midst of one.

I also absolutely adore the relationship between Nate and Sully, so if you'd like to explore that aspect of the series, I would love you forever.

I'm also completely open to an entire fic revolving around Sully himself, with or without Drake. My friends spent an entire evening barraging my twitter feed with jokes and jabs about Sully's mustache and my obsession with it and, to be quiet honest, it was most bizarre and flattering time I've had in months.

As far as the ladies: I love Chloe and Elena equally, so I wouldn't complain if you wanted to throw in either of them for variety. (Or have them do their own adventure without the boys!)

I really hope this helps! Please remember: these are OPTIONS, not demands! I will love anything and everything you decide to share.

And, if you have any questions, feel free to leave anonymous bits in my Tumblr Ask Box.
